The Comfort of Old Friends (2003)
This quilt was made for an old friend whose teenager daughter was facing some serious health problems. The small calico scraps were part of my stash from another era, when the friend and I worked with others to raise money for the anti-apartheid movement. By putting these scraps into a quilt, I hoped she would feel the warmth of old friends during a very hard time. The red stars and red fabrics in the border reflect the hopeful politics of then and now. Machine quilted by Laura Lee Fritz who is a wizard with the long arm.
