This four-patch variation was inspired by a quilt top made by African-American quilter, Elizabeth Samantha Fowler Weatherbee in 1903. I was intriguied with the simplicity of concentric squares made by alternating darks and lights using a red, black, green and blue. The fabrics were purchased while visiting friends in up-state NY in the fall, of 2005 and are a different palate then most of the quilts I have made since moving to California.. Backed with a red and blue plaid and machine quilted with large spirals to compliment the simple squares.
